“Scene”: The couch (procrastination mode on), Comfortable
clothes (acquired), PC/MAC (check), Facebook tab (check), Youtube tab
(check), Television (maybe, nothing interesting anyway) OR *enter here procrastination activity*-close scene. Nothing
you don’t already know right? Now think how many times you did this for the
past, let’s say year. Not that you don’t have anything to do: Assignments
(pending), Motivation (Who? Where?), Life plans “Meh, I still have a few years,
I mean months, I have a few days in university left, I will figure it out”.
Occasionally though, PANIC, you can’t even imagine yourself working in the
field you are studying, no experience, economic crisis, unemployment, grades don’t
even matter and on top of that, no money, none, not even to go out (yet we do
go out). I guess after that we are motivated enough………to get back to the “Scene”,
do nothing and we’ll figure it out, PROBLEM SOLVED!
Is it just me, or does anyone else finds this as a case of
insanity and self-destruction? But isn't that what everyone does? I mean you
do find a job eventually. Why bother? It’s not our fault; we don't even want
to study this anyway, so we just roll with it. Well, we are probably right
about the last one and welcome to “What the hell are we doing here; let’s do
what we were meant to”.
Go back to the scene, in that procrastination activity, lays
the answer. First though, why that procrastination occurs, you don’t hate what
you study (best case scenario! cutting us some slug, again). Simply you did not
choose it and probably because you feel like you have an obligation to
something/someone (aka yourself/family) to study something that will “get you a
job”, “secure your future” you had to do it. It’s like we only make mistakes,
but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and that light might be a way
out, or it might be “a train called reality coming to get you”. Now that we are
done with the clichés it’s suggestion time.
Think about what you do when you procrastinate, that thing you do the most when you procrastinate. If you can't think of anything then search through that list and find what interests you the most, it
could be anything, something you thought of doing but you were like “I will do
it after I finish the assignments/exams” (like that is going to be done any
time soon). It might be something you want to create, read, write, take a video
off, research something, play a musical instrument, draw, sculpt, whatever it
is, even if you are not familiar with it and everyone makes fun of you, do it.
You probably think I am really out of my mind here and you
are too bored to do it, but let me ask you a question. Everything else failed
to get you going, do you want solutions or excuses? You are the only one who can
answer that.
Part 2… Proof: "Don't take my word for it".
very well written, :) i have found the procastination is resolved with some passion. When we like what we do, when we see and feel that the results will give us what we want, we become maniacs... Now the true question is how do we find passion? it cant be forced or faked. Having a good understanding of yourself and and vision will take us a long way. It also helps if we don't listen to others since most of the time people (not intentionally of course) like to bring others down. A healthy dose of courage and some lack of fear will add the final touches...
ReplyDeleteI think most of us confuse interests with passion, we cant be interested in a lot of things, but going through them will challenge them as to how far do we love them, that's where you find the passion. Something you cant go to sleep because you are thinking about it. When that happens everything else is irrelevant. But doing something that it's not even in that interest category or it's at the bottom then we are far from finding passion in anything. It's discouraging because everything seems so difficult, so you become inactive, numb, and you just go through life being somewhat interested. I agree with you that's why im doing part 2 for showing how to break the habit and escape from people that keep us down. Thanks for commenting btw :p
